Exit 430 (Vinyl)

$50.00

RELEASE DATE 26 FEBRUARY 2023

Top New Zealand jazz trio release their first album. Recorded in front of a live audience at The Lab

recording Studio in Auckland in December 2023.

‘Exit 430’ is the title track and is named after the motorway exit the band took to get to the

studio. “We’d been in the car for 10 hours driving up from Wellington”, explains bassist Daniel

Yeabsley, “we had this great new tune that needed a name. Finally seeing exit 430 was a relief,

and seemed like a fitting name.”.

Ayrton Foote, the trio’s pianist explains how the band choose the repertoire to record- “The tunes

are ones we’ve been playing all year. We have a weekly residency at the Cabletop Eatery in

Kelburn, Wellington, and we encourage the audience to request their favourite tunes.”.

Not many bands, jazz or otherwise, choose to record in a studio in front of a live audience.

Drummer Mark Lockett explains the reasons- “Well, first of all we wanted a good sound. That’s

why we travelled to Auckland. We knew Olly Harmer at The Lab, and he knows jazz and how to

record bands live. Second, we wanted to have the feeling of a live gig- the vibe and the interplay

with the crowd.”.

“we’re really happy with the album and how it turned out” continues Daniel, “I think there’s

something for everyone, from cool kids to groovin’ grandmas!”.
